The City of Lakewood is currently seeking An Accounting Specialist in its Finance Department. This is a full-time AFSCME Bargaining Unit position, salary $42,935 – $47,633, normal working hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Performs various complex accounting functions, verifying, preparing, and recording deposits, develops various reports by researching and gathering information and statistics. Must have the knowledge to adjust journal entries in computer systems and be able to process payroll information. Must possess the knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounts maintenance and operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, auditing procedures and laws. Must have a good working knowledge of the basic principles and practices of accounting. Must possess an overall knowledge of general office procedures, policies, and practices, as well as knowledge of computer and other general office equipment. Must be able to research, compile, and summarize a variety of informational and statistical data and materials. Must possess an understanding of English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, routine correspondence, and memos, and to understand and carry out oral and written instruction. Must possess the skills necessary for timely and accurate data entry, and good typewriter skills.

Calculator, computer, and general office equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED, three years of experience performing general office duties with accounting functions or any combination of education training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate of Applied Business in Accounting or closely related field is preferred.
Employee may be required to work overtime pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 and Article 15 of the current negotiated agreement.
Applicants may be required to submit to knowledge-based testing, including hands-on testing.
