2026 Greater Cleveland Black History Month Events

February 01, 2026

Each February is recognized as Black History Month in the United States. The Greater Cleveland area offers a wide range of events, celebrations, and educational and cultural opportunities related to the history of African Americans in our region and the country as a whole.

Lakewood Public Library February Events

The Lakewood Public Library will feature a screening of Hidden Figures, a 2016 film that tells the incredible true story of Katherine Jonson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson – brilliant African American women working at NASA who served as the brains behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn, a stunning achievement that turned around the space race. The visionary trio crossed all gender and racial lines, inspiring generations.

The Library will also feature a book club reading of James, a re-imagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain but told from the perspective of Huckleberry’s friend on his travels, Jim, who is an escaped slave.
