Term Expires: 12/31/27
Ward 4:
Matt Bixenstine began serving on Lakewood City Council in early 2026 when Council appointed him to complete the remainder of the term vacated by Cindy Marx and represent the people of Ward 4.
Matt has had the privilege of calling Lakewood home since 2009 and his family has resided in Ward 4 since 2014. He and his wife, Alyse, were married in one of Ward 4’s most prominent structures, the Screw Factory, and their two children are enrolled in the Lakewood City Schools.
For more than a decade, Matt has honed his skills as a community builder, both in professional and volunteer capacities. From 2016 to 2020, he served as Marketing & Development Manager for LakewoodAlive. This experience enabled him to tell the story of Lakewood’s many vibrant neighborhoods, business corridors and community events. He was responsible for fundraising so that the organization could continue to do its important work supporting residents.
More recently, while serving as a stay-at-home parent, Matt has continued to be civically-minded by pursuing extensive volunteerism. As founder and president of Friends of Madison Park (FOMP), he led a group of neighbors in advocating for this beloved city park in many ways. These include launching the Little Free Locker Room, managing the 25-plot FOMP Community Garden, hosting community events like Madison Park Chalk Fest and assisting the City of Lakewood with creating the Madison Park Master Plan.
His other volunteer endeavors include establishing the Clarence Avenue Block Club, as well as contributing to the Lakewood Tree Advisory & Education Board, Keep Lakewood Beautiful, Lakewood Soccer Association, Lakewood Hike & Bike Program and the Harrison Elementary School PTA.
A native of Akron and graduate of Ohio University, Matt is a champion for public parks, neighborhood camaraderie, pedestrian safety, complete streets, small business support, affordable housing, tree canopy growth and community beautification.
