Public Works and Sustainability Committee
Public Works Committee Chair: Evans
Members: Bullock, Steiner
The Public Works & Sustainability Committee addresses legislation referred by Council related to the City’s public works infrastructure and department such as grant applications and grant awards for public works projects, easement agreements, and projects that require coordination at the regional and state levels. The committee also addresses matters related to sustainability. In 2023, the committee reviewed and ultimately recommended adoption of the City’s first Climate Action Plan which charts a course towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In recent years, the committee initiated the conversation about reducing the speed limit on Lake Ave, which went into effect in 2024. It also worked alongside the administration to reimagine operations at Winterhurst Ice Arena, to return it to a more community-oriented facility for residents.
The Public Works Committee meets on an as-needed basis on Monday evenings at City Hall with the active participation of the City’s Public Works Director and other members of the administration.
