June 26, 2025

The Lakewood Community Recreation & Education Department is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year and will serve as the grand marshals of the city’s annual Fourth of July parade.

The parade is scheduled to step-off on Lake Avenue at Kenneth Drive at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025, and conclude at Lakewood Park.

The Lakewood Recreation Department has been providing safe and meaningful recreation and educational opportunities for kids and adults of all ages for 100 years.  In 1925, the Lakewood City School District began its stewardship of the Lakewood Recreation Department which consisted of one full-time director and a secretary.  The department was provided two rooms to conduct its business of offering physical & education activities throughout the city.

Today, they have seven full-time staff members (which includes two full-time field maintenance positions) and employ over 350 seasonal/part-time staff members. The Recreation Department oversees programming in three pools, ten gyms, two football/soccer stadiums, one baseball stadium, two softball stadiums, 14 baseball/softball fields, 12 school district buildings and one grass soccer field.  They have had over 9,000 participants in their programs just this year.

Also joining in the parade will be musical favorites; the Lakewood High School Ranger Marching Band, St. Edward Marching Eagles, Lochaber Pipe Band, and The Red Hackle Pipe Band.

At.7:00 p.m., the Lakewood Project, Lakewood High School’s Youth Rock Orchestra, will perform at the Bandstand at Lakewood Park.

The Fourth of July will conclude following Lakewood’s annual fireworks extravaganza, set to begin at approximately 9:45 p.m.
