Updated: Parts of Bunts Road to be closed for construction

July 24, 2017

As part of the 2017 road improvements program, spot repairs are being done on Bunts Road.   The majority of these repairs require the entire width of the road to be removed and replaced. To complete this, there will be sections of Bunts Road closing for periods of time. The tentative, weather-permitting schedule for Bunts Road is as follows:

THURSDAY (7-27): Saw-Cutting. Starting between Detroit and Clifton working south towards Lakewood Heights Blvd. Construction barrels are setup down majority of Bunts, but that is only for the contractor to put “No Parking” signs. The contractor plans on having saw-cutting totally finished by the end of the day Thursday and will only have no parking signs in front of sections that they will be working.

FRIDAY (7-28): Finishing any saw cutting, if necessary. Same process as Thursday. Resident letters distributed to homeowners affected by road closing (road will be open to residents who live on road, closed to thru traffic)

UPDATE:  MONDAY (7-31): Beginning full-depth base repairs on Bunts Road. According to contractor foreman,  they will start work north-to-south (Clifton to Detroit) on Monday, July 31st.  While Shelly Company is working, they will close Bunts Road from Clifton to Merl.   When they are finished with the work between Clifton to Detroit, they will begin work south-to-north (Lakewood Hts to Athens).  They will not be closing two sections of road at a time and will only close the section of road they are working in.

The road closures will be from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  After 3:00 PM, northbound will be opened with flaggers directing traffic, and southbound will be detoured to Warren Road. The detour signs will only say “DETOUR” with an arrow.

The contractor is estimating that work will take 3 days to finish. This schedule is weather-permitting. If it rains, the schedule will be delayed.
