Blue Envelope Program
Lakewood Police is proud to offer the Blue Envelope Program. The program is designed to enhance better communication between emergency service personnel and community members diagnosed with a disability or medical condition such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Alzheimer’s/Dementia, or any other conditions that might require awareness or accommodations during interactions with law enforcement.
This program helps law enforcement officers assist residents with special needs and provides the officers with a better understanding of the individual they are interacting with. In the event of an emergency, the envelope contains information about the individual’s special need, their emergency contact, and other information that can be provided to a first responder.
How the Program Works
Upon contact with a first responder, an individual presents their blue envelope. The envelope contains a copy of the individual’s identification, contact information, information regarding their special need, vehicle registration, and insurance card.
