Mayor George Seeking Applicants for Board & Commissions

The City of Lakewood is seeking volunteers ready to engage with the community and advise their local government. Opportunities on the following Boards and Commissions are available:

The Audit Committee meets on a quarterly basis with the City’s Finance Director and Council’s Finance Committee to provide independent review and oversight of the City’s financial processes. Members should be capable of reviewing financial statements and reports and serve as an independent forum to report fraud to the Auditor. Appointees may serve up to two two-year terms.

Lakewood’s Citizens Advisory Committee is charged with making recommendations to Lakewood City Council regarding the annual allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CBDG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds the city receives from HUD and the Cuyahoga County Housing Consortium. The Committee reviews and prioritizes funding requests by city departments and Lakewood-based not-for-profit groups to ensure proposed activities effectively address community development needs. Mayoral appointees serve may serve up to two two-year terms.

The Lakewood Community Relations Advisory Commission meets monthly, with members serving three-year terms. Established in 2005, the commission advises and makes recommendations to city officials, departments, boards, and commissions on matters relating to Community Relations within the City of Lakewood, in an effort to advance respect for diversity, bonds of mutuality, and equity.

The City Records Commission meets once every six months, and additionally as needed, and includes the Mayor, Director of Finance, Director of Law, and a citizen appointed by the Mayor. The commission provides rules for retention and disposal of City records, and ensures compliance with the law relating to retention, disposal, and disposition of records. There is no term limit to this position.
